string(6349) "Have you ever slept better in a hotel room than in your own bedroom? The phenomenon is so common because hotel decor relies on the most comfortable furniture, beds, and linens they can find to ensure a good night’s sleep.
The furniture is carefully curated as well. Many hotels use feng shui methods to decorate a room in minimalist style, allowing their guests to have a clean space with lots of breathing room and a night away from the clutter and bustle of home.
But this idea is no longer limited to hotels. Instagram has allowed us to peek into the world of the wandering elite, following fashion icons and travel bloggers as they explore the many beautiful boutique resorts around the world, taking pictures of them as they go. And as we peruse photos of an elegant Parisian suite or an exotic Moroccan retreat, we can borrow from the refined aesthetic of these world class resorts, bringing the romance or the vibrancy of a city and their hotels into the rooms where we spend so much of our lives.
The top five hotel decor trends to bring home:
White Space
Many hotels rely on white space to allow for a tranquil experience to quiet a busy mind. Purchasing white linens, benches, and bedside tables adds to the allure and can be complemented with a pop of color.
White space can also help with sleep, silencing the chatter many so often experience before bed by limiting the stimulation we are exposed to in the bedroom. White windows and drapes drown out the sound and light that can keep us up at night for a restful slumber every single night.
Texture
Wood grains, furs, tiles, wool blankets and other textured items can be added to a minimalist style bedroom to add warmth, comfort, and what is known in nordic literature as hygge—a feeling of being cozy.
We crave coziness, especially in the wintertime, which is why winter resorts and lodges stock up on textured items for the snowy season. Wooden beds draped with heavy feathered blankets and stone fireplaces hung with rosemary branches are added comforts that keep us warm and happy.
Matching Upholstery
Reminiscent of 1950’s style upholstery, hotel decor featuring matching items has once again become en vogue. To bring it back, simply pick a patterned fabric that can be paired throughout a room, and use it to upholster a bed, chair, or blankets (or all of the above) for a nostalgic feeling that reminds you of grandma’s.
To pull the feeling throughout your house, pick a pop-color from the patterned fabric to pull through the house in the form of flowers, pillows, and other decor for a room that matches and a style that reminds you of home.
Minimalist
Minimalist design is all about keeping a room as simple as possible. This works well for small spaces that cannot fit more than a few pieces of key furniture and it gives inhabitants a feeling of mental clarity. Not much else is needed when you have all the simple pleasures life has afforded to you.
A well-made bed, a solid blanket, and a lamp are all one needs to enjoy a quiet night in and a moment of peace from a world that won’t stop turning.
Pattern
For a European twist, apply pattern and repeat. Patterned wall papers layered over with patterned furniture, patterned blankets, and patterned rugs offer a luxurious respite reminiscent of long ago royalty and decadent dreams. For those that enjoy a little luxury, pattern can help create the life of leisure that many of us would love to enjoy in the comfort of our own homes.

string(4835) "People who love to stay at boutique hotels in California do so because it reflects their lifestyle. A sometimes overlooked niche in the hospitality industry, boutique hotels are enjoying an ever-increasing demand from business travelers and vacationers alike.
Few places better exemplify boutique hotels and the lifestyle they represent than California. Home to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the east, the Pacific Ocean coastline to the west, and miles of vineyards and towering redwood forests in between, boutique hotels in California are the ideal spot for travelers seeking a bit of California Dreamin'.
However, while there is a proliferation of high-end boutique hotels for the rich and famous, finding more affordable boutique hotels in California cities and towns is still possible for the equally discerning traveler.
How Should Boutique Hoteliers in California Manage the Increasing Demand for Bookings and Increasing Competition?
While there is no one simple answer, one thing is certain—hotel guests will forgive rustic, well-worn elements of a hotel’s property, but they won’t forgive guest rooms with outdated furniture or uncomfortable beds. We’ve all booked a room in a city only to find that our guest room furniture is either broken, outdated, overly worn, or all three. It doesn’t encourage your return.
The financial impact is often at the front of very hotelier's mind when it comes time to renovate. While several factors need to be considered before planning a renovation, it’s never too late to start thinking about what your next guest room renovation will look like.
7 Signs It's Time to Renovate, Renew, and Revive
- Local competitors are upgrading their facilities
- The bathroom tiles are are chipped or cracked
- Carpet cleaning no longer removes stains from guestrooms or lobbies
- Doors and windows are difficult to open or squeak when opened
- Draperies show signs of excessive wear
- Casegoods such as nightstands, desks, dressers, or armoires show visible signs of wear such as scratches or are not opening and closing properly
- Negative reviews are starting to trickle in via TripAdvisor or Yelp that talk about antiquated guest rooms and furnishings
The Arrival of the Quintessential Boutique Hotel
Around 2010, name-brand hotel chains began embracing the boutique hotel concept, including Starwood, Marriott, and Wyndham. While hotel and hospitality experts have a range of definitions from "not cookie cutter" to "less than 100 rooms," travelers are drawn to the unique lodgings, experiences, and intimacy smaller hospitality brands provide their guests.
The Hyatt recently launched an exclusive boutique hotel brand, Autograph Collection Hotels, reminiscent of the iconic California-based Joie de Vivre boutique hotels brand. Founded by Chip Conley in 1987, the Joi de Vivre brand brought the concept of psychographic themes to the forefront of the industry.
Their hotel lobbies and guest rooms feature interior design themes like new age wellness, men's health, romance novels, and luxury camping. These themed hotels continue to be a huge success and inspiration in the hospitality industry and to guests who would remain loyal to Joi de Vivre hotel brand and what it signified for decades to come.

string(4786) "Since 5-star hotels and their accompanying amenities are numerous, many millennials search for more customized experiences in boutique hotels as opposed to the cookie-cutter experiences bigger chains have historically provided.
Often located in vibrant cities, these distinctive properties are almost always more attractive to millennials than their big brand counterparts. Boutique hotels that create memorable experiences are successful for all the right reasons.
Personalized Service
One of the challenges that independent historic and boutique hoteliers face is finding new approaches to attract this demographic to their properties. According to Phocuswright, a global travel market research company, in 2014, millennials spent slightly less money when traveling ($3,217) than older travelers, who spent $3,381.
While not a significant difference, millennials tend to travel more spur of the moment. As such, millennial travelers are seen more as explorers and adventurers than as tourists, implying that they also value unique lodging experiences that engage their sense of spontaneity and creativity.
One of the most attractive traits of boutique hotels is the presence and capabilities of personalized service. These smaller properties also have the ability to change their decor and update their room themes more frequently than larger hotel chains.
Boutique hotels offer millennials customer-centric service and cater to fewer people at any given time, which makes guests feel important and valuable. Guests staying at a smaller property also have more opportunities to interact with hospitality staff and sometimes the hotel owner or general manager. The more attention a guest feels, the more likely they are to return.
Quirky and Memorable Environments
Staying in a unique location is often more memorable than staying in a chain hotel, as chains typically offer the same look, feel, and interiors all across the world. Boutique hotels employ many techniques to remedy this, including the furnishing and design of the guest rooms. The right furniture, crafted with care and skill, can completely revolutionize a room, giving unique lodgings the ability to stay up-to-date on trends as well as to garner positive experiences and reviews from their guests.
Comfortable beds, minimalist chairs, and casegoods that leave plenty of open room space combined with eco-friendly fixtures are features prioritized by millennials. Overall, a favorable environment and thoughtful interior design of your boutique hotel can make a huge difference for guests, even if they spend very little time in the room itself.
Contemporary Aesthetic of Boutique Hotels
In addition to room furnishings, the overall aesthetic of a hotel is critical for creating a boutique experience. Keeping up with furniture and design trends can be challenging, but the effect of a unique lodging experience in addition to that of a well-designed room can be unforgettable. For all guests, establishing relaxed, upscale environments often do the trick. Luxury items such as plush towels, overhead lighting, and technology built into casegoods are always a plus.
Importance of Sharing Experiences
In the current digital age, millennials strive to balance sharing their lives on social media platforms with their sense of independence and individuality more than ever. Staying at a sometimes overlooked location or finding that hidden gem the masses tend to miss gives guests the assurance that they are making the best choice. According to the Millennial Brief on Travel & Lodging, boutique hotels should focus on building a more memorable experience that is suitable for their hotel brand and their millennial guests.
Digital connectivity is also often considered as a top priority for the millennial traveler. Sharing memories from a vacation or business trip on social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat is a mainstay in many people’s lives today. Hotels that create a unique brand experience that incorporates easy ways to share images and hashtags on social media can also boost their brand by engaging future customers.
In a nutshell, service, overall aesthetic, and upscale amenities are often what make boutique hotels successful. Unique lodgings of all types offer an individualized experience for fewer guests than say a 25-story hotel tower in the middle of the city. This gives guests who choose the former a feeling of satisfaction that they choose the better option."

string(5724) "If your guest rooms are starting to look a little tired, making a plan to update hotel furniture before the high tourist season arrives will benefit the bottom line and your guests. Hotel owners and hospitality industry experts agree, the average lifespan of soft goods—upholstered furniture that includes sofas, chairs, and ottomans—is around seven years. Hard goods, referred to as casegoods by hospitality professionals, typically last considerably longer. Especially furniture manufactured to exacting and high-quality standards.
The lifespan of a guest room furnishings and lobby furniture, whether referring to its carpets, curtains, casegoods, or bathroom fixtures, generally depends on where the property is located as well as the types of clientele the establishment serves.
High-end luxury properties and boutique hotels typically update hotel furniture with high-quality pieces and finishes in their guest rooms and lobbies. Moreover, luxury properties may have fewer guests with longer stays. Whereas budget-friendly hotel brands see a higher turnover of guests, often with children and pets. All of which can create more wear and tear on guest rooms and furniture.
Are your hotel rooms looking a little tired?
Design trends in the hospitality industry enjoy a rich history; the age of the ‘grand hotel,’ lasted from around 1860 to 1960. These opulent estates-like properties commonly featured more than 500 rooms, and guests were primarily the rich and famous. In the 1950s, a Texan named Conrad Hilton decided to build hotels that gave rise to name-brand chains and as the saying goes—the rest is history.
Northland is a Pacific Northwest company manufacturing custom, quality furniture for hotels, lodges, and resorts for more than 40 years. It could be said, we've seen trends come and go in the hospitality industry. Today’s hotel interior design trends primarily center around convenience, comfort, and aesthetics. Not only do our designers stay up-to-date on hospitality trends, our builders incorporate best practices into our manufacturing processes. For example, support components are built into Northland furniture to prevent sagging over time.
3 Tips on how to ensure your renovations are successful
- Hire a hospitality interior designer or architect to help you specify FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment).
- Ensure that design concepts are reflective of your hotel’s brand as well as its customers.
- If your property is smaller or you are planning to refresh rooms with new carpet and furnishings, choose a hospitality furniture company like Northland in Bend, Oregon, to help you design custom pieces or select the right furniture and finishes from our lines.
Choosing high quality, durable pieces that will withstand the test of time, will help to keep your hotel guest rooms looking updated and fresh for years to come. Northland takes every detail into consideration and manufacturers casegoods with components made from solid and engineered wood. We work with hotel owners, managers, interior designers, architects, and other stakeholders who are involved with your renovation project.
Update hotel furniture during your next renovation, which can be guest friendly with a little planning
When it comes time to renovate your hotel rooms, a little planning will go a long way in keeping your guests happy and undisturbed.
- Make a plan for how and when the renovation will proceed that includes the general manager, the property manager, and the construction company’s general contractor.
- Guide hotel staff on their important role of keeping guests comfortable. Employees are ideally situated to communicate the new changes to visitors in a positive way.
- Create quiet hours and a buffer zone for guests, so guests don’t see construction zones near their rooms or be disturbed by loud equipment
- Let guests know renovations are underway and when and if they might hear equipment during daytime hours (most guests leave their rooms for several hours a day and won’t mind daytime noise)
Here at Northland, we understand that undertaking a renovation no matter how big or small is a financial responsibility. It’s why we are dedicated to crafting timeless designs into our furniture alongside the ability to customize specifications. We are here to help you and your team update hotel furniture in your guestrooms. From durable custom designs to modern-day amenities like built-in lighting and electrical ports, Northland manufacturers casegoods to meet your requirements.

string(5035) "The priority for any hotelier undertaking a guest room renovation is to choose the best hospitality furniture. For some, it can be a daunting task, however, knowing what to look for in a hotel furniture manufacturer will put minds at ease. During the economic recession, the wholesale furniture industry experienced tough times just like many other industries—discretionary income for construction and remodels was scarce. During this period, hospitality interior designers, architects, and hoteliers looked to overseas hotel furniture manufacturers for lower costs.
Thankfully, the economy continues its upswing creating opportunities for hoteliers to update their properties with the latest hotel design trends in the hospitality industry. Most often, the hospitality furniture in your hotel, restaurant or conference space gives visitors their first impression of your business. Many guests may base their initial opinions about the service they are going to receive on the hospitality furniture. Setting the tone for their visit, be it for dinner or a whole week of vacation, ranks as a high priority for companies in the hospitality industry.
Choosing the Best Hospitality Furniture for Your Hotel Property
Hospitality furniture should pair with your targeted clientele. Determine what type of guests your boutique or large brand name hotel caters towards. While many companies want to be inclusive to all demographics of people, certain restaurants and hotels may only want to draw in adults, children, people seeking luxury accommodations, eco-friendly and more. Choose hospitality furniture that brings in your desired clientele.
Hospitality seating must coincide with maximum occupancy. The highest number of occupants and the hospitality seating you choose must meet ADA requirements and fit precisely within your space. Plan for walkways and aisles when selecting the hospitality seating, tables, and other furniture.
Plan for hospitality furniture that falls within your budget. While this may seem like a no-brainer, seek out hospitality furniture manufacturers within your budget. Looking for furniture without a budget in mind could wind up with you falling in love with something far beyond your price range. Researching hospitality furniture manufacturers and their price points before seeking out the furniture itself puts you ahead of the game.
How Hotel Interior Design Influences Your Guest’s Experience
When a guest walks into their hotel room for the first time, their senses are on alert and three things happen almost simultaneously: How does the room smell? How does the room look? Are there any noise issues? Guests also determine pretty quickly whether or not the furniture aesthetically pleasing, and if so, does it look comfortable? These are all questions whose answers create the first impression for your guests. It is often the first impression that remains a lasting impression; it will determine customer loyalty to your hotel’s brand. Hotel property owners can improve their guest experiences in many different ways. Having a fantastic design with pleasing color schemes starting at the lobby and carrying through the entire property is a sign that a design concept is carried out.
Multifunctional, versatile furniture is a growing trend in the hotel industry. For example, the business traveler is accustomed to having built-in charging stations and good-quality lighting for late night computer work. We live in a technology-driven society, and to the degree that your hotel furniture designs can accommodate the need for convenience by marrying hotel nightstands and desks with devices will meet the needs of guests.
Many factors come into play when choosing the right hospitality furniture for your hotel, senior living facility, or university dorm rooms. Ensure you have enough space for walkways and for setting your desired ambiance. Choosing furniture that appeals to the aesthetics of your targeted clientele makes the biggest difference. Keep in mind budget restrictions when choosing hospitality furniture.
Northland Furniture offers hospitality furniture in a variety of collections to please different demographics of patrons. Consider Northland when selecting the hospitality furniture for your hotel, senior living facility, or university dorm rooms."

string(5010) "Today, a new generation of hoteliers operate a wide range of smaller hotel properties in big cities throughout the country. As such, renovating historic boutique hotels and keeping them in pristine condition will keep guests returning time after time.
Boutique hotels first appeared in the mid-80s in San Francisco and London. When the Bedford Hotel came on the scene in America’s most popular tourist destination in San Francisco, California, it gave travelers choices that were no longer limited to the large chains, or big expensive hotels such as the Fairmont Hotel or the St. Francis.
Soon after the Bedford, boutique hotel groups such as the Kimpton, Joie de Vivre, and Thompson Hotels began renovating historic boutique hotels to create unique guest experiences to travelers from near and far.
Travelers who choose to stay at boutique hotels are banking on a single, unforgettable experience. One of the primary ways hoteliers can stand out is by investing in interior design and decoration. Hotels built in the early 1900s are poised to be converted into historic boutique hotels, especially, if they are designated landmarks.
Keep these design principles in mind when renovating historic boutique hotels
-
Historic properties can retain their relevance in today's technologically driven world
The appeal of historic hotel properties is strong because landmark properties have rich stories from bygone years. Even though guests want to become a part of those stories they expect modern-day amenities. Examples of these conveniences include built-in connection ports to guest room furniture will provide guests with the ability to connect their smartphones and tablets anytime they choose.
-
Blend vintage and new elements into new furniture designs to create one-of-a-kind guest experiences
Contemporary furniture mixed with antique pieces sends a clear signal to guests they're staying in a modern boutique hotel, located in a historic setting, giving them the best of both worlds at every turn.
-
Sprinkle the property with thoughtful details to enhance the boutique hotel experience
Hoteliers and designers charged with renovating historic boutique hotels want to draw inspiration from the history of the property whether it is a designated landmark or located in a national park. Keep in mind that guests expect original touches in boutique hotels. Incorporating local stories and whimsical design elements will surprise and delight your guests.
-
Reflect the natural environment surrounding your hotel property into the interior built environment with Northland’s custom crafted furniture lines
Lake Yellowstone Hotel located inside Yellowstone National Park is a national landmark property that recently underwent renovations. Northland furnished new guest rooms with headboards featuring down facing puck-lights, nightstands, activity tables, and refrigerator cabinets all designed with hand-distressed alder.
Don't be afraid to invest in an older hotel property, especially if it's designated a landmark and can be converted into a boutique hotel
The design challenges inherent to historic properties are surmountable, and even the most dilapidated properties are frequently candidates for restoring them to glory. The result is a modern hotel infused with a narrative that sparks your guest's imagination and remembrance to create a one-of-a-kind experience.
The cachet of staying in a historic boutique hotel property can make for an unforgettable guest experience. When you embrace a hotel's past and restore its glamor, guests feel the magic.

string(5036) "Northland is a hospitality furniture company with manufacturing facilities located in the United States, so it is only natural that the company would attend the industry’s premier trade show—Hospitality Design Expo. Referred to as the HD Expo by trade professionals, the event will be at the Mandalay Bay on May 3rd - 5th in Las Vegas, Nevada. We sat down with Michelle Fish at Northland to learn more about the company's 40-year history in the Pacific Northwest and what they have planned for this year’s show.
Q. Who attends the HD Expo in Las Vegas?
A. Exhibitors include manufacturers of furniture, casegoods, artwork, fabric, carpet, and lighting. Really, anything you need to remodel a hotel is at HD Expo—it’s the place to learn about design trends and new technologies. HD Expo is the biggest trade show that we attend every year. It gives Northland the opportunity to connect with our customers and brings us new customers and new opportunities as well. It’s where hospitality designers, architects, and manufacturers come together for networking and inspiration.
Q. What is Northland most excited about for this year’s HD Expo?
A. We are excited to be launching our new Northland brand and logo at this year’s show. We’ve also designed and built custom furniture pieces for our booth at this year’s HD Expo. One of the larger pieces is a new, innovative design that will house two flat screen TVs with video playing throughout the day. It also shows our design capabilities including how our hospitality furniture designs seamlessly combine electronics into our casegoods. Like other furniture manufacturers, we first assemble our booth at our manufacturing facility in Bend, Oregon, before shipping it to Las Vegas. By doing this, we can ensure displays will be set up exactly the way we envision at the show.
Q. What sets Northland apart from the competition?
A. Mainly, that Northland is a USA furniture manufacturer that can offer quicker turnaround times than many other manufacturers including those with operations overseas. Our 10-year warranty also sets us apart as does our just-in-time manufacturing facility with a focus on quality and design. This allows us to be nimble and gives us the ability to partner with designers to create custom contract furniture designs for guestrooms and residence rooms. Because we are able to manufacture to custom specifications, our customers can pick out different pieces of furniture from any or all three of our different casegoods lines.
Our catalogs allow hotel designers, purchasers, and owners, to get ideas as well as to have a starting point for customizable furniture designs. They can also order directly from our catalogs. It is not uncommon for an hotelier or designer to make changes to the colors, sizes, and finishes of our casegoods and to be very happy with the final product. Northland's turnaround times are quicker this time of year, however soon they will stretch out a bit because hospitality properties want to get their renovations complete before summer. In general, we strive for 6 to 8 weeks based on the receipt of all sign-off and approvals.
Q. Can you tell us a little bit about Northland? How long has the company been in business?
A. Northland began manufacturing commercial furniture for the hospitality industry in 1976, and we recently celebrated our 40th anniversary. When we started in the business, our manufacturing facility was located in the Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon. During that time the Old Mill District was home to two of the largest pine sawmills in the world. We sourced much of the wood material for our furniture from the historically significant Brooks-Scanlon Mill before it closed in 1983.
Q. How has Northland evolved over the past 40 years?
A. From the beginning, our mission, which still stands today, is to construct high-quality casegoods and hospitality furniture for hotels and resorts. Northland’s reputation for service and quality grew, and so did our market. Besides serving the hospitality industry, we began designing and manufacturing furniture for senior living facilities, university and college dorm rooms and expanded our reach with resorts, and hotels.
The Hospitality Design Expo will be held May 3 - 5 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The hospitality industry includes hotels/resorts, casinos, cruise ships, restaurants, senior and assisted living facilities. Over 850 exhibitors and 10,000 attendees are expected to attend HD Expo this year. From continuing education credits to the latest trends and technologies HD Expo gives exhibitors and attendees the opportunity to network and gain insight.

string(3976) "Senior living furniture continues to play a significant role in shared housing communities as more baby boomers march towards retirement age. This sophisticated demographic carries with them higher expectations for their living environment.
One current trend in senior living communities takes its cue from the hospitality industry. Design elements that feel less institutional and more hotel-like will appeal to future residents and their adult children who frequently help their parents decide where to live.
Increase revenues by enhancing your facility's reputation
First impressions only take a moment to create. By updating old furniture, senior living operators will improve the look and feel of their premises. Moreover, old furniture may not have been designed and built to meet today's exacting standards for safety and durability.
Northland manufacturers senior living furniture collections that are aesthetically pleasing, durable, and functional. By incorporating new furniture designed to meet both the visual and practical needs of their residents, senior living communities will enable older adults to feel more at ease.
Reduce maintenance and repair costs for senior living furniture
Furniture represents a substantial capital investment for all senior living communities. On average, furniture in public, high-trafficked spaces needs to be replaced every 5-7 years due to regular use. When deciding between repairing or replacing furniture, there are several factors to consider.
The benefits of replacing worn, outdated senior living furniture include reducing maintenance costs and attracting new residents. Moreover, purchasing durable, well-made senior living furniture will minimize the cost of replacement down the line.
Interior designers, architects, and senior living community owners can look to Northland when deciding where to purchase their casegoods. Northland offers a longer than industry average 10-year warranty. Northland furniture can help reduce maintenance costs and can be custom designed to meet a broad range of requirements.
Customize your furniture to create spaces that work
Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all. Senior living communities can enhance the quality of life for their residents by creating a sense of community while respecting the need for privacy. For example, dining facilities with a restaurant-like feel encourages social interaction, while resident rooms featuring beautiful furniture designed to maximize space will be more inviting
Incorporating the comforts and amenities of home will surely be more attractive to prospective residents, and can be achieved by choosing furniture that is beautifully crafted and designed for safety and durability.
Northland manufacturers casegoods for hospitality, senior living, and healthcare. Freestanding collections can be previewed at our online project portfolio and catalogs. Northland also works closely with designers to create custom designed furniture. Applications for Northland casegoods include resident rooms, dining, and activity spaces, and common areas. "

string(3624) "A winning combination of beautiful boutique hotel design and well-crafted custom casegoods gives small hotels an advantage over larger hotel chains. How? A small hotel typically has between 10 and 100 rooms, which means these operators can respond faster when it comes to updating their guest rooms to reflect the latest hotel design trends than large multi-national chains.
What Trends are the Hospitality Industry Following?
The big question on every boutique hotel owner’s mind is what are the trends this year? However, boutique hotels are usually located in a unique setting that informs their brand. For example, the Joie de Vivre Hotel chain includes more than 30 boutique hotels, each reflecting the neighborhoods that surround them.
Knowing what travelers are expecting informs the style of guest rooms. For example, a small hotel located near Pier 39 in San Francisco may have a nautical theme. A boutique hotel in the heart of Portland may decide to emulate the industrial vibe of the Pearl District or feature the Pacific Northwest craftsman-style by choosing furniture made locally in its guestrooms.
1. Shared Spaces
The emphasis on collaboration and community is all around us— we see it in everything from social media to volunteering. In 2017, hoteliers are planning for even more emphasis on communal areas that are designed to bring people and shared experiences together.
One of the many advantages boutique hotels have over home shares like Airbnb or HomeAway, is their role of being a place for people to gather, and located in a neighborhood. Whether in a metropolis like New York or in Portland, Oregon, hotels by nature bring a diverse group of people together under one roof.
2. How Guests Feel
Whether your boutique hotel is luxury, budget, or something in between, guests expect rooms to look and feel good. Design plays a crucial role in hospitality, especially when defining that hotel’s brand or persona. Today’s guests are intuitively attuned to interpret design to fit their conceptions of what a hotel is really like, and if it’s the right fit, or lifestyle, for them.
3. Sustainability and Emission Reduction
Soon after green building became a national movement, hotels started taking a more holistic approach to the overall guest experience. The hospitality industry continues to focus on reducing their carbon footprint by implementing technologies such as automatic light shut-offs and asking guests to reduce water consumption during their hotel stay.
Supporting locally handcrafted and sustainable furniture is the latest boutique hotel trend
Green interior designers always strive to support locally owned and operated businesses for things like hotel furniture and art. Doing this creates an emotional tie between a boutique hotel's customers and the community. Hotels featuring local craftsmanship and artists also give guests an insight into the local culture and its history.
While hotel design trends in 2017 continue to take shape, business travelers and tourists still want the comforts of home in addition to the luxury experience that comes with top-of-the-line beds and casegoods in guest rooms."

string(3614) "Interior design is both an art and science. The role of hospitality interior designers is unique because they must consider how public spaces connect with the variety of people who use them. The best interior designers create beautiful hotel guest rooms and spaces that appeal to the emotions of hotel guests while anticipating their needs.
Professionals who design commercial interiors specify everything from carpets, paint colors, and light fixtures to furnishings, casegoods, and more. Northland understands the important role of interior design and how it influences the way people live, work, play, and even heal.
We work closely with interior architects and designers to custom design hospitality furniture for a wide variety of applications. Northland’s commitment to excellence is demonstrated in the quality and beauty of its hospitality, student housing, and senior living furniture.
4 Popular Hotel Styles
The number one goal of every hospitality designer is to create functional and appealing spaces. The most popular design styles that influence and inspire interior design for hotel guest rooms are as follows:
- Contemporary—Uses negative space to convey the feeling of basic and bare. Hospitality interior designers use contemporary furniture design when they want simple shapes with smooth edges.
- Craftsman—Strives to harmonize with the environment by the use of natural materials such as wood and leather. Craftsman interior design is very popular in the Pacific Northwest for boutique hotels and National Parks.
- Industrial—Aims to create vast spaces with open floor plans. The industrial interior design style incorporates materials such as brick, rough wood, and metals.
- Mid-Century Modern—Is well suited for small spaces and is often used in boutique hotels.
- Traditional— Reproduces furniture from early historical periods. Traditional interiors have a comfortable, homey feel with soft edges on furnishings and often include floral patterns.
Hospitality Interior Designers: Creating Durable, Well-designed Casegoods
It is important for hospitality interior designers who specify for hotels, senior living facilities, and student dormitories to choose durable, well-designed casegoods for their guest rooms and public spaces.
Northland casegoods are designed to last and are both functional and aesthetic, making them an appealing choice for hoteliers and designers.

string(2318) "Durable hotel contract furniture is a must have to impress travelers from near and far. When a guest first enter enters a guest room, the importance of making a great first impression cannot be overstated. Hotel contract furniture must be able to withstand frequent use and the test of time while remaining beautiful.
Casegoods designed for the contract market are meant to be extra durable, which makes the use of quality woods and craftsmanship of utmost importance. Hoteliers and interior designers who want durable hotel contract furniture made in the USA can look to Northland Furniture when specifying furnishings for renovations and new construction.
Durable hotel contract furniture can save money in the long run
Hotel guests sleep in beds, sit in chairs, and work at desks while in their rooms, which means a hotel’s furniture plays a meaningful role in determining a guest’s overall experience during their stay. The feeling of comfort, cleanliness, and in some cases, even luxury, determine whether guests will be returning, or not. Losing a guest’s loyalty due to worn or out-of-date furniture means losing money.
Even though hotel contract furniture represents a significant capital expense, hoteliers can save money in the long run by choosing high-quality wood furniture that will endure many years of frequent use. By offering an industry-leading 10-year warranty, Northland Furniture stands behind the beautiful casegoods they design and build for exceptional strength and durability.
Northland is a leading contract furniture manufacturer in the Pacific Northwest. Whether you are interested in developing new furniture designs or purchasing from our product catalogs, Northland Furniture can help distinguish your property and elevate your guest's experience.
Northland’s featured projects are easy to preview online. Our photo portfolio displays original and custom designs in addition to hardware and finish choices for hospitality projects throughout the USA. "

string(6349) "Have you ever slept better in a hotel room than in your own bedroom?
