string(4323) "If you are looking to furnish a hotel or senior living facility you probably want something that suits your style. Whether you are going for a modern minimalist aesthetic or a boutiquey European vibe, you need customizable furniture to match. And that can be hard to come by. After all, most commercial furniture manufacturers excel at one style and one style only. Like the Ford Model T, they come in any color you’d like, so long as it’s black.
Northland Furniture has built our reputation on providing quality furniture that is customizable to fit your specifications. We love working with your interior designers, architects, and hotel owners to match the look and feel you’re working to achieve. And that’s true whether you are a beach resort on the coast or a senior housing community in the city.
Northland Furniture Provides Customizable Furniture For Commercial Projects
Northland furniture provides customizable furniture for commercial projects. We specialize in hospitality furniture and senior living furniture though we’ve also outfitted office spaces, rehabilitation facilities, churches, and several other commercial spaces. We are able to do this because we are not limited to a particular set of collections. We love to get creative and collaborate on a collection together. Then we produce the furniture you want to fill your facility.
For The Hospitality Industry
We’ve supplied furniture to many flags over in the past 43 years, as well as many independent properties such as national park facilities in Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and Glacier. As you can imagine, each of these properties is entirely different. We’ve made modern furniture with clean lines for newer resorts, and we’ve built classic lodge furniture for rustic properties. And each property had something completely different.
We chalk it all up to flexibility. Because we do not require order minimums, our hoteliers can get something that is exactly to their specifications. They can tweak and make adjustments to our standard lines or let us know what inspires you so we can help created something that is absolutely perfect for their properties. And because all of our furniture is made in the United States (and from North American materials no less) we can do it all with 6-8 week lead times.
This has proved especially beneficial to hotel properties that were impacted by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria. Hotels all along our southern coasts were suddenly devastated by flooding and property damage. As you can imagine, getting back up and running quickly was of utmost priority to these coastal resorts. Thankfully, because we offer customizable furniture and have the ability to ship it quickly, we were able to help some of these hotels get back to business in record time.
For Senior Living Facilities
Customizable furniture is especially important to senior living and rehabilitation facilities. That’s because residents at these facilities often require special care or have limited mobility. Thankfully, customizable furniture can make all the difference. Strategically placed benches that are available every few yards can allow residents to get from one spot to another by taking small breaks along the way. Drawer pulls that can be easily used by residents, rounded corners, and convenient access to their belongings make a big difference.
Todays senior living environments have also moved away from traditional hospital-like interiors, opting instead for the look and feel of an upscale hotel. And technology has played a big part in that. As seniors become more technologically advanced, power ports can be added to their furniture for better accessibility for residents and their families.

string(3935) "Why buy American Furniture? There’s no doubt about it, when you’re purchasing furniture for the hospitality or senior living industries, price is important. After all, you need to be able to purchase a large amount of furniture to fill your facilities. But don’t confuse price with cost. Purchasing inexpensive furniture that is imported comes with its own share of downsides. For one, imported products are often manufactured using inexpensive particle board or pine (neither of which are known for their durability, to say the least).
This has a huge impact on cost. Sure you may pay less money up front, but you’ll have to replace furniture more often due to wear and tear. If you’ve ever purchased an Ikea coffee table, you know what we mean. It isn’t long before scratches and paint chips start to make it look worse for wear. After one move, the pieces may begin to collapse, and the furniture becomes unusable. Imagine what would happen if hundreds of people were using it over a period of several years.
The Benefits of Using American Furniture
Purchasing furniture that is made in America is just plain good for business. It’s more cost-efficient in the long term, it’s more durable for the years to come, and you don’t have to deal with lengthy shipping timelines.
It Supports Job Growth
Obviously, there are ethical upsides to purchasing American-made furniture. Supporting businesses that manufacture their furniture in the United States means you directly impact the United States economy. You support US job growth, you support companies that are based in the United States, and your tax dollars go to supporting US initiatives. Wouldn’t you (and your residents) love to contribute to our local economy?
Not to mention, the United States has to adhere to strict labor laws that ensure the workers employed in their manufacturing facilities are paid and treated well. It feels good knowing that the furniture you are purchasing for your facility is well made.
It’s More Economical
But there are economic reasons as well. Quality control is an essential part of the manufacturing process and one that can be difficult to guarantee overseas. Sometimes shortcuts are often taken, materials are downgraded, and the machinery may be out of date and inefficient.
At Northland Furniture’s manufacturing facility in Oregon, we use only the most experienced craftsman and up-to-date equipment to manufacture a quality product that will withstand decades of wear and tear in highly trafficked areas. Then we use soft, reusable packing materials that are damage resistant so commercial furniture reaches its destination without so much as a scratch.
It’s Better For Business
Buying American furniture is also better for business. Without language barriers, it’s easier to communicate your wants and needs; and easier for us to understand and meet your exact specifications. Since we’re shipping right from our facility in Central Oregon, we can get our furniture to you in 6-8 weeks. This has been particularly relevant to hotels who lost their furniture during hurricane season. By working with Northland, they were able to replace their damaged furniture with much faster lead times and get their rooms back online.
Northland Furniture is proud to employ more than 50 employees at our 42,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Central Oregon. We also purchase all of our raw materials from North America and guarantee our workmanship for 10 years.

string(4323) "According to Trip Advisor, A staggering two thirds of travelers prefer to stay at sustainable hotels and resorts. Unfortunately, most travelers struggle to determine which resorts are more environmentally conscious than others. To help fill this need, Trip Advisor recently released Green Leaders—a rating system that allows travelers to determine which hotels follow sustainable practices, such as environmentally friendly furniture, and which don’t.
With ratings from Bronze to Platinum, green ratings now appear alongside lodging options on the website’s hotel search system—as well as on competing sites such as Hotels.com and Travelocity. This allows customers to view the hotel ratings they expect, as well as how environmentally friendly they are.
Though only 17% of consumers would be willing to spend more on an environmentally friendly room, many would opt for an environmentally friendly room over one that is not so long as the price points remain the same. In the increasingly competitive hospitality industry, that means hoteliers would do well to consider the environmental impact of their establishments.
Here’s How To Make Your Hotel More Environmentally Friendly
Apply to the GreenLeaders program
In order to have the little green leaf next to your name on Trip Advisor, the first thing you need to do is apply to the GreenLeaders program. The application will take up to an hour to complete and will ask you questions about your recycling habits, whether or not you use energy saving appliances, your water conservation practices, and whether or not you’ve purchased environmentally friendly furniture for your property.
If you meet 30% or more of the requirements, you are eligible to become a GreenLeader and will be assigned Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum status based on the percentage of green practices you have in place.
Implement Conservation Practices
As part of the requirements of the program, all hotels that have achieved GreenLeader status must track energy on a regular basis, replace at least 75% of lighting with energy efficient light bulbs, recycle at least two different types of waste, and have a plan in place to recycle sheets and towels should those staying with you request to do so. In addition, staff and guests alike must be educated in the conservation practices put into place by your hotel.
Purchase Environmentally Friendly Furniture
Though guests are concerned with how the hospitality industry affects the environment, they are even more concerned with how the hospitality environment affects their health. As customers become increasingly aware of the negative health implications associated with the furniture manufacturing industry, it is becoming more and more important for hotels to furnish their properties with environmentally friendly furniture. Concerned with the effects of formaldehyde in confined spaces, for example, many customers are opting to stay where hotels use furniture made from sustainable materials and without the use of toxic chemicals and hazardous finishes.
That’s why Northland Furniture is committed to providing environmentally friendly furniture for the hospitality industry. Our furniture is made in the United States using North American sourced materials. We use LEED-applicable stains and finishes and strive to conserve resources and minimize impact on our environment. Not only are our manufacturing processes better for the environment, but our furniture is made with your guest’s health in mind.
By purchasing our furniture, not only will you meet the purchasing requirements to become a certified GreenLeader on Trip Advisor and other travel booking sites, but your guests will have peace of mind knowing that you use only the best environmentally friendly practices in your hotel. Contact us to inquire about your hospitality project. We’d love to help you become a sustainable leader in the industry."

string(3395) "This year has been a difficult one for many popular tourist destinations on the coast. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria have devastated Texas, Florida, and Caribbean coastlines leaving hundreds, if not thousands, of hoteliers scrambling to get back to business as usual. One of the most costly consequences of hurricane damage in the hospitality industry is replacing furniture that has been ruined or wrecked.
Get Your Hotel Up and Running After the Hurricane Damage
One town in Texas went from 5,000 hotel rooms available each night to only 50 after Hurricane Harvey hit. The Beachgate Condosuites in Port Aransas has experienced more than $275,000 in reservation losses for their 48-room hotel, with cancellations stretching well into the new year. For smaller boutique hotels, unrented rooms mean no longer receiving a paycheck.
In Florida, several large resorts have fared substantial damage, with Key West’s 120-room Hyatt still closed due to hurricane damages. The Marriott is also still working to reopen while working to quickly repair damage and replace furniture. In the Caribbean, St. Barts and Anguilla have lost $18 million in displaced business. In other words, the scramble to reopen is on. And in some places, it’s vital.
Northland Furniture Provides Hospitality Furniture With 6-8 Week Lead Times
Not only do hotels need to replace furniture, but they must do so quickly enough that upcoming reservations can still be kept. Though replacing furniture can be costly, it’s even more costly to keep a hotel closed for any extended length of time. That’s why one Florida hotel called us immediately after the hurricane to request hospitality furniture with a quick lead time. Thankfully, that’s our specialty.
Northland Furniture provides commercial hospitality furniture with 6-8 week lead times. That means we can get your hotel furnished and ready to host guests again a mere eight weeks after the damage is done. Not only that, but our furniture is manufactured in the United States using only North American materials. As a result, our customers can trust that they will never have to deal with international shipping snafus or long lead times.
Our Furniture Comes Guaranteed with 10-Year Warranties
We use sustainably sourced materials, eco-friendly manufacturing processes, and LEED-applicable stains and finishes for all of our custom furniture. For world-class results where luxury comes hand-in-hand with sustainability and integrity, we have just the thing. We take pride in the quality designs we have created for boutique and commercial hotels alike. So much so that we offer ten-year warranties ensuring your furniture will be able to withstand the elements for years to come.
If your hotel has been hit by hurricane damage this year, give us a call. Northland Furniture provides custom hospitality furniture for boutique and commercial resorts of all sizes. We’d be happy to help you furnish your resort so you can get back up and running in record time."

string(3597) "Accidents, illnesses, and other medical challenges can cause individuals to require rehabilitative support. To support the physical and psychological well-being of these individuals, Northland provides custom furniture for rehabilitation facilities. That means chairs and tables that are adjustable, bedroom furniture that is beautiful and functional, and treatment furniture that is accommodating.
Here’s What to Look for When Purchasing Furniture for Rehabilitation Facilities:
Adjustable Chairs and Tables
Depending on the injury, some patients may be less mobile than others. Some may have a better grasp on motor function than others. Some may be mentally handicapped more so than physically handicapped. Some patients may be unable to grasp small handles with their hands, or stand-up from an armchair that is too low. Other patients may be unable to sit up in a chair without support.
That’s why one of the most important aspects of rehabilitation is being able to adjust treatment to an individual patient’s needs. Patients need to be able to be moved from room to room without difficulty. Chairs need to be at a height that makes it easy for them to stand on their own. Tables need to be adjustable so they can be comfortably used for meals and beverages. In short, furniture for rehabilitation facilities should be accommodating of all needs, no matter the patient.
Functional Bedrooms That Feel like Home
For patients staying at your rehabilitation facility, it’s important that their living quarters feel like home. Going through rehabilitation can be as mentally challenging as it is physically challenging and comforts that provide a sense of normality can make a huge difference in their recovery. One study goes so far as to say that recovering stroke patients were more likely to recover at home than they were at a hospital. This is because, rather than feeling at the mercy of a hospital, the change of environment empowered patients to make their own decisions about their treatment.
Creating bedrooms that put patients in charge of their recovery can be a very healing experience. Lounge areas that allow rehabilitation patients to entertain guests, open shelving where they can display personal effects, and cabinetry that uses easy-to-open handles can help residents feel more at home and more empowered to recover.
Lounge Areas That Are Easy to Access
Being able to move is an important aspect of recovery. That’s why it’s important to consider the pathway between a bedroom chair and any public spaces residents may wish to visit. Are the chairs high enough that the patient can stand-up on their own? Are there seating options placed along hallways should patients need to stop and rest? Are there plenty of handholds that can be used for balance and stability throughout the common areas? These are all important things to consider when looking for furniture for rehabilitation facilities.
Northland Furniture provides custom furniture for rehabilitation facilities. Our furniture is adjustable, comfortable, and made with your patent’s well-being in mind. Contact us for more information. We’d love to help you support your patients."

string(4038) "A comfortable office chair, a clean workspace, and a creative work environment can encourage your employees to become more productive, more focused, and more creative. That’s why so many Silicon Valley companies have decided to design custom office furniture that will promote a productive workspace. You can too. Here’s how:
Here Are Five Ways Custom Office Furniture Can Make Your Team More Productive:
Use Minimalist Design to Keep Employees Focused
If you’ve ever worked from home only to discover that you can’t stop cleaning your house, it’s because it’s hard to work well in a messy or cluttered work environment. To help your employees prioritize the tasks at hand, it’s important that you streamline the environment around them so that it feels clean and undistracting. Use minimalist design concepts to create desk spaces with clean lines and hidden wires so employees can stay focused.
Use Unique Furniture to Keep Employees Creative
With bean bag chairs in the lounge, napping pods down the hall, and standing desks in their open concept offices, there’s a lot we can learn about office furniture from tech denizens such as Apple’s new Apple Park and Google’s famed Googleplex. These offices were designed to inspire creativity in their employees, and they do just that by featuring unique furniture you wouldn’t find elsewhere. With picnic tables in the lunchroom and telephone booths for private calls, there are endless ways you can use custom office furniture to inspire your employees.
Use Vibrant Colors to Increase Productivity
It’s proven that bright, vibrant colors can greatly influence the moods of your employees. That’s why companies such as Motorolla, Proctor & Gamble, and The Body Shop have hired color psychologist Angela Wright to help them design office spaces with productivity in mind. Blue will make employees the most productive, she says, while yellow stimulates optimism, red inspires manual labor, and green promotes calm and affluence.
Set Up Standing Desks to Promote Better Health
Several studies have shown that standing desks can decrease the likelihood of developing everything from obesity and diabetes to cancer and heart disease. One study even went so far as to say that if the average American could reduce their sitting time to only three hours per day, they would gain up to two years in life expectancy. In other words, standing desks are good for your employees, and that’s worth investing in.
Create a Separate Space for Employee Personal Time
Another way custom office furniture can help your team become more productive is to create a separate space employees can use for personal time. This might be a lounge area or a dining area even. This helps employees feel that when they are at their desks, they are ready to work.
Northland Furniture creates custom office furniture for forward-thinking companies around the country. Our minimalist design practices and unique furniture options will help your employees be more productive and more creative. Contact us for more information—we’d love to set your team up for success."

string(5444) "The hotel market has become increasingly competitive—thanks in large part to the home rental service Airbnb. Thankfully, there are several things hotels can learn about hospitality decor from Airbnb that will help them attract more guests—and stay competitive.
Here’s What Hotels Can Learn About Hospitality Decor from Airbnb:
Make Guests Feel like Home
One of the main reasons guests choose to stay with an Airbnb rental is that it makes them feel like home. Offering more than just a coffee maker, most Airbnb’s come equipped with full kitchens for guests that prefer to cook, and refrigerators that can be used to store restaurant leftovers. Just because guests are traveling doesn’t mean they want to eat every meal out on the town. Having a place to heat up or prepare meals makes travel much more economical for your visitors. Invest in custom kitchen furniture and appliances so guests can make themselves at home.
Decor doesn’t hurt as well. Instead of having blank white walls or run-of-the-mill photography—add a touch of personality. Guests love staying in Airbnb rooms because of their unique sense of style. Paint one of the walls. Feature artwork from local artists. Put vases on countertops or place unique books on the nightstands. Ski lodges would do well to put old snowshoes on walls or use wooden skis as decor. The point is that hotels should decorate—and do so in a way that is relevant their personality and location.
Create Communal Hang out Areas
Many hotel rooms offer a place to sleep, but not necessarily a place to stay. Because friends often accompany travelers, it’s important that hotels create communal areas in which groups can hang out. This is one of the main reasons many travelers are attracted to Airbnb—it’s a place where guests can bring five of their best friends, make dinner in the kitchen, and hang out together in the living room or on the outdoor patio. Though this may be hospitality decor from Airbnb, hotels can do the same.
Place custom sofas and chairs in each room so guests can host small gatherings. Create large lobbies complete with games, coffee bars, happy hours, and plenty of seating, so guests have a place to hang out with friends. Create outdoor patios with fire pits, patio furniture, lawn games, and maybe an evening S’more making ritual. Having communal hangout areas that allow guests to hang out with their friends—has the added benefit of attracting larger groups to hotels.
Invite Guests to “Work from Home”
A 2015 survey revealed that only 10% of Airbnb guests are traveling on business, compared with 30% of hotel guests. This means business travel is still a huge market segment for those in the hospitality industry—and one to capitalize on. Frequent traveler point systems, nearby conference centers, and whether or not a hotel is allowed by a particular business all play a part in attracting clients to a given hotel. That isn’t to say that Airbnb isn’t gaining ground. Or that there they can’t be learned from.
One thing that Airbnb has done exceptionally well is set up a home office. Though business travelers are often traveling to a work conference or meeting, it’s likely they’ll need to finish up some work in their room as well. Well set-up desks with easy-access outlets, USB ports, and even monitors, can be a huge help. Keep a pen and paper nearby for note taking and add a decorative lamp or ergonomic chair, so guests feel comfortable and at home.
These are just a few of the things hotels can learn about hospitality decor from Airbnb. By creating an environment conducive to eating, entertaining, and working from the room, hotels can borrow from successful Airbnb decor ideas to attract guests are otherwise lured elsewhere.
Northland Furniture provides custom hospitality furniture for hotels looking to stay competitive and attract more guests. Our product line includes beds, desks, dressers, sofas, and chairs that facilitate a communal environment and an exceptional stay. string(5122) "Hostels are making a comeback. Thanks to a renewed focus on the millennial travel market, many hostels are redefining the industry by creating hip hangouts, envious outdoor spaces, elegant indoor decor, and modern detailing. Because of these hostel furniture trends, hostels have experienced a 7% growth rate year over year—and this is just the beginning.
Here Are Four Ways Hostel Furniture Trends Are Redefining the Industry:
1. Hostels Create Hip Hangouts for Their Guests
Hostels provide affordable living spaces for millennials while they travel—but with beds renting for less than $40 per night for a single, or less than $60 per night for a double, it’s a wonder hostels are even able to turn a profit. However, turn a profit they do, thanks in large part to something every millennial wants but few commercial hotel chains have: hip communal spaces guests want to hang out in.
Generator Hostels has made a name for themselves as one of the world’s first “poshtel” chains—hostels that are so posh, guests want to hang out there all day. These hostels feature rooftop decks, underground disco clubs, local restaurants, and unique bars where guests can mingle with locals in an aesthetically pleasing environment. Though beds rent inexpensively, these hostels rely on food and alcohol sales to boost earnings, and they’re able to do so because of their lively atmosphere.
Large sofas frame ottomans and tables for a communal environment conducive to playing games, enjoying a drink, or checking out a map of a guest’s next destination. Pillows and blankets emit a feeling of home, and ping-pong tables and bocce courts provide entertainment the bars next door don’t have. Because of this, millennial guests spend more time at their hostels than generations past, making the establishment more money as they do so.
2. Hostels Bring the Local Vibe Indoors
White walls and stark surfaces are no longer the norms for today’s hostel industry. To revive formally sterile environments, many hostel furniture trends focus on bringing the local vibe indoors, providing fireplaces, planters, and trees in communal rooms where guests will congregate. They’ve also replaced fluorescent lighting with more modern fixtures and windows which allows for plenty of natural light and often a pretty view.
Far from feeling like a dungeon, these hostels no longer feel separated from the cities where they are situated. To the contrary, the more hostels bring the local environment into their establishments, the more guests wish to spend time there. What guests are after, after all, is a local experience in their global world. By hanging local art and planting local flora, hostels can feel less like a dormitory and more like a bohemian hangout.
3. Hostels Are Making Twin Beds Cool Again
Though hostels are typically known for their dormitory format, 9 out of 10 hostels now provide private or semi-private rooms for their guests. Replacing bunk beds with twin beds has allowed guests to live the hostel life while enjoying a sense of privacy. When guests no longer have to wake up at 4 AM because their bunkmate just got home from the discotheque, they can enjoy their experience better and plan to stay longer.
4. Hostels Are Going Modern
Finally, hostel furniture trends have taken a turn toward the modern. By focusing on a sleek, minimalist design that transcends all countries and continents, hostels can achieve a trend-forward feel that is as Instagram-worthy as their millennial guests want it to be. Streamlined sofas, large modern tables, and chairs that provide a pop of color can make all the difference when it comes to whether or not a guest chooses to stay at an establishment. In fact, 70% of hotel guests choose their stay based on the pictures alone.
Northland Furniture provides modern hostel furniture that can be custom built to suit your aesthetic needs. Contact us to learn how we can help you create beautiful bedrooms and hip hangouts featuring modern detailing and local flare. These hostel furniture trends will encourage guests to stay at your hostel and entice them to stick around once they do."

string(5605) "Whether you’re selecting furniture for your hotel, dorm, or senior living community, eco-friendly commercial furniture can provide a healthier environment for your residents, company, community, and country.
Here Are Four Reasons Why You Should Choose Eco-Friendly Commercial Furniture:
1. Supports Job Growth in the United States
Supporting job growth in the United States has been a political priority for several administrations, but that doesn’t mean businesses can’t take the reins into their own hands. Though many furniture suppliers have moved their manufacturing operations overseas—in large part due to low production costs and equal trade agreements—those that continue to keep their manufacturing facilities in the United States have done much to support the U.S. economy.
In 2013 it was estimated that the United States employed 14 million workers overseas. That’s almost double the 7.5 million workers that remain unemployed in the United States. Assuming that those 14 million jobs could return to the states, that would allow all unemployed workers and even all part-time workers to accept full-time jobs, thus boosting the economy and supporting job growth. Though returning manufacturing jobs to the United States is easier said than done, there is a lot that American-made businesses can do to support job growth at home.
Northland Furniture, for example, designs, builds, and ships all commercial furniture from our 42,000 square foot facility in Central Oregon. We employ hundreds of employees and have for more than forty years. Not only do we strive to manufacture all of our commercial furniture domestically, but we also take extra measures to source materials from North America. In this way, Northland Furniture is proud to support job growth in the United States by creating hundreds of jobs in the Pacific Northwest.
2. Produces Less Waste and is Better for the Environment
Not only does eco-friendly commercial furniture mean more jobs for our country, but it also means less waste for our environment. Just as “fast-fashion” transformed the retail industry by providing disposable clothing at a heavily discounted price, the furniture industry has followed suit. Many of today’s major furniture manufacturers provide poorly constructed furniture at a lower cost, anticipating that their buyers will need to replenish furniture regularly.
Far from being sustainable, this method produces products that do not last more than a few season and end up in a landfill when they don’t. The EPA estimates that 9.8 million tons of furniture waste make it to landfills each year—that’s waste that will take decades if not centuries to biodegrade, and millions if not billions of dollars to replace in our hotels, student housing, and senior living facilities.
The only way to combat this trend is to produce furniture reminiscent of the craftsman era. By providing quality furniture designed and built to be handed down for generations, Northland Furniture guarantees that your hospitality furniture won’t need to be replaced, even with substantial wear and tear. We even offer a 10-year warranty to prove it.
3. Is Healthier for Your Residents
For a long time, the furniture industry took its queue from the fashion industry: coating wooden furniture items such as beds, tables, nightstands, and bookcases with flame-retardant chemicals now known to cause cancer, fertility problems, and neurological defects. Daily exposure to these hazardous furniture items resulted in higher than normal levels of carcinogens in the residents who owned them. For this reason, it’s important to consider what finishes are used on your commercial furniture.
Northland Furniture uses only LEED-applicable stains and finishes. This means that all of our furniture is made according to the eco-friendly standards established by LEED—and they do not emit hazardous chemicals into their surrounding environments. For this reason, be sure to use eco-friendly commercial furniture to provide a safe and healthy environment for your residents.
4. Is Good for Business
Whether you need furniture for hospitality, student housing, or senior living facilities, eco-friendly commercial furniture is not only good for residents; it’s good for business. By investing in quality, durable furniture that is guaranteed to last for decades, you’ll lower your maintenance costs, decrease your annual replenishment costs, and provide a safe and healthy environment your residents will want to return to.
Northland Furniture provides hospitality furniture for Marriott, Hilton, Best Western, Wyndham, and BHG hotels as well as many student housing and senior living facilities nationwide. To learn more about how you can use eco-friendly commercial furniture for your ventures, please contact us. We’d love to tell you more."

string(5626) "Choosing the right resort furniture can contribute to the rest your guests experience while staying at your resort. Here are a few scientifically proven ways to reduce stress for a pleasant stay:
Resort Decor That Promotes Better Sleep
The best thing a resort can do is provide a restful sleeping environment for their guests. Inadequate sleep can cause mental duress such as anxiety, depression, and chronic stress—not to mention physical malnourishment that can lead to high blood pressure, kidney disease, heart disease, and stroke. By simply promoting a good night’s sleep, resorts can provide everything guests need to wake up feeling refreshed and revived.
Perhaps the biggest contributing factor to quality sleep is well-planned lighting. According to a study in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, those who are exposed to low levels of light 24-hours a day are more likely to experience pain and fatigue. Even cracks in blackout shades or the numbers on a digital alarm clock can have an adverse effect on circadian rhythms, causing guests to lose precious hours of sleep.
To avoid disrupting circadian rhythms, resorts can emphasize natural and unnatural lighting during the day and minimize lighting during the night. Use plenty of windows to highlight the natural rhythms of the day and night. Blackout shades, analog clocks, and heavy curtains can keep rooms dark so guests can receive the the R&R they need.
Quality resort furniture can provide a level of comfort guests might not be accustomed to experiencing at home. Custom designed beds and night tables in contemporary or minimalist designs can further enhance the aesthetic appeal of resort rooms, while comfortable mattresses, featherbeds, and pillows can contribute to the comfort of your guests.
Resort Decor That Lower Levels of Stress
The aesthetic environment of your resort can also help reduce levels of stress experienced by your guests. Sheepskin rugs and textured fabrics can minimize sounds or echoes, custom scents can contribute to a sense of spa-like serenity, and soft linens and towels can encourage a level of luxury not typically found at home.
To deepen the experience, emphasize plenty of water and white space in your lobby, spa, and bedrooms to encourage calmness. According to the design principles of feng shui, proximity to water—whether a bottle of water at the front desk, a fountain in the lobby, or a waterfall in the spa—can promote a mildly meditative state that relaxes the mind, body, and spirit. Allowing for plenty of white space can have the same calming effect on your guests.
When deciding on the resort furniture and decor for decorating your space, consider the natural movement of the eye. The gaze will naturally rest on the largest piece of furniture first before taking in its surroundings. Center an armoire or bed on a wall flanked on either side by a piece of lighting or decor. By providing a level of symmetry to space, the mind will naturally feel more balanced as a result.
Resort Furniture That Promotes Calm
Comfortable, durable, and distinctive furniture can also promote a sense of calm. According to the principles of interior design psychology, “people’s interactions with the environment are determined by the meanings they attribute to it.” The more meaningful or functional guests find objects in their rooms, the more meaningful and functional they will find their lives. A gold ball-point pen, for example, will appear to be both functional and valuable, which increases the intrinsic value of the object and makes the guest feel more connected with it.
The same holds true for furniture. A cheaply made bed that moves when a guest sits upon it may be functional. But if it doesn’t appear to be sturdy and steadfast, the guest may assume the same about their environment. By making sure furniture is stable and in good repair, resorts can provide an atmosphere of quality and comfort.
Northland furniture provides custom hospitality furniture for commercial, boutique, and timeshare resorts. Manufactured in beautiful Bend, Oregon, our furniture features durable, quality, and high traffic collections for classic and contemporary styled resorts. string(6638) "When looking for senior living furniture, it’s important to consider how custom furniture can provide the freedom, mobility, and social life crucial to the well-being and longevity of your residents. Here are a few ways you can design your space with their best interests in mind:
Senior Living Furniture Should Enhance Freedom
By the time residents have left the comfort of their own home for the security of a senior living community, they may feel as if they are losing their last ounce of their freedom. Thankfully, that doesn’t need to be the case. Solid armrests can allow residents to pull themselves up without assistance and custom height chairs or sofas can grant them the ability to get up on their own and move about the community as they wish—something that becomes increasingly more important as they age.
“Imagine not being able to get out of your chair without someone else’s assistance,” says Brooke Fredericks, Owner of Right at Home in Southern Oregon, “that one disability could cost you hours of independence—not to mention the ability to do what you want to do when you want to do it.” By providing custom built furniture that allows residents to get up on their own, senior living communities can give residents back their independence!
Senior Living Furniture Should Enable Mobility
Senior living communities understand that losing mobility can be akin to losing their health. As Harvard instructor Dr. Suzanne Salamon says, “If you’re unable to get out then you can’t go shopping, you can’t go out with your friends to eat dinner or go to the movies, and you become dependent on other people to get you places.” When residents become socially recluse, they start to stay home more, and eventually become immobile. In turn, immobility can cause incontinence, urinary infections, skin infections, and other ailments.
For this reason, it’s important for senior living communities to emphasize and enable mobility as much as possible. Consider, for example, a resident who can’t move more than twenty steps. If a community or social gathering is farther than twenty steps away, it’s likely he or she might not even try for it in the first place. This could lead the resident to stay in his or her apartment more often, to move less often, and to eventually become unable to move farther than ten steps, reducing their mobility at the expense of their health and well-being.
However, if a senior living facility strategically places custom height benches and chairs every twenty steps throughout the community, residents become empowered to venture out of their rooms, walk twenty steps to the nearest bench, and then rest for awhile before continuing their journey to the community event. This simple change encourages mobility, increases longevity, and decreases the isolation felt should they not be able to leave the confines of their rooms.
Senior Living Furniture Should Facilitate Social Activities
In the same vein, senior living communities know how important social communication can be to prevent the isolation and loneliness so often associated with the aging population. Many residents have lost a spouse, or no longer live close to their children,” says Brooke, “by providing spaces that feel like a living room and encourage residents to get together and socialize, senior living communities can make a big difference in the quality of life of their residents.”
That means providing furniture and fixtures that that are custom designed for people who may have a limited range of motion. Drawers that are readily accessible while standing or while sitting in a wheelchair, with drawer pulls that can accommodate those with limited strength or arthritic hands or joints, can significantly ease social dinners or events, allowing residents to move about and even host guests on their own.
Senior Living Furniture Should Make Residents Feel at Home
Perhaps most importantly, senior living furniture should allow residents to feel at home. Often the hardest part of moving out of your own home is losing that sense of comfort. Cozy spaces with good lighting can provide a place for residents to read or visit with family—and that can make the difference between feeling like they are staying in a residence, or feeling like they are living in their own home.
To this end, it’s important for senior living communities to choose well-designed furniture that feels like a taste of home—while providing the safety features they need to feel self-sufficient. Well designed tables and desks can allow residents to write letters to their families while accommodating wheelchair access. Electrical housing can allow residents to stay in touch with their communities via computer while keeping cords out of their way. Even rounded corners can allow residents to move about their apartments while reducing any bumps and bruises.
Custom furniture can be completely life changing when it comes to the health and well-being of senior living communities. Northland Furniture provides safe, sophisticated, and comfortable, senior living furniture that can be customized to the needs of your residents while allowing them to feel at home. Our furniture is custom built in beautiful Bend, Oregon and is designed according to your exact specifications. Shop our senior living collection or contact us for more information. "

There are a few things any hotelier can do to keep furniture in excellent condition and to keep guests perpetually happy.
1. Buy Durable Products
Buying high-quality goods may seem like common sense, but many are surprised to learn how many hotel chains buy cheaper hospitality furniture to save money in the short-term. Quality furnishings don’t have to cost a fortune, but it’s worth investigating which brands will stand the test of time.
Hoteliers must remember that furniture needs to withstand significantly more use in a hotel than furniture meant for the home. By selecting high-quality products in the first place, hotels are less likely to experience customer complaints or negative reviews down the line.
One way to guarantee durability is to purchase products made in the USA. This way hotels have more control over the design process, more visibility on the quality control measures being taken, and far shorter lead times. If anything does go wrong problems can be resolved quickly and replacements can be shipped promptly.
2. Keep A Written Maintenance Policy
Teams are always changing, so it’s important that there be a written policy documenting how to assemble new furniture, how to fix common issues, and how to clean various surfaces properly.
Most furniture will come with assembly instructions. Keep it on hand for new hires or rotating staff members who may have no experience with the furniture that has been purchased. If there are items that occasionally need to be fixed or refurbished, note how those should be handled as well.
Finally, make sure to document how to clean furniture properly (as per the instructions outlined for each item). If someone accidentally uses a bleach-based product on wood-grain furniture, that item may be ruined permanently and require immediate replacement. A costly and time-consuming mistake.
3. Keep Extra Parts On Hand
Keep note of those pieces and parts that may break or become unsightly over time. Plan for each surface or part that may need to be fixed or replaced at the drop of a hat.
This includes varnish for wood surfaces that may become scratched, screws and nails for metal parts that may become damaged, and any wheels or knobs that may need to be replaced. By keeping these items on hand, rooms can always look their best without having to replace an entire piece of hospitality furniture.
4. Care For Furniture Properly
Separate steps need to be taken for various surfaces. For example, wood furniture will last longer if placed away from windows, sunlight and any heating or cooling elements. Phones or lamps are placed on a wood table, rotate them periodically to keep the table from developing discoloration. Felt should be added to the bottom of anything sitting on a wood surface to prevent scratching.
Similarly, upholstery and leather do well away from the sun and will likely require specialty cleansers to remove any stains. Always keep in mind that different fabrics and treatments may require different care.
5. Make Sure To Have A Ten-Year Warranty
This will protect hoteliers against all infractions that may occur at the expense of the furniture. And since most quality hotels upgrade their furniture every five to ten years, a ten-year warranty provides plenty of coverage.
All of Northland’s furniture comes with ten-year warranty to ensure your furniture is protected against misuse and damage. For over 40 years, Northland Furniture has been manufacturing high quality commercial furniture for hotels, timeshares, senior living environments, college dormitories and other facilities. Using domestically sourced materials, including many materials from the Pacific Northwest, our experienced team of craftsmen design and build furniture that can withstand high traffic and other challenging environments. string(4323) "If you are looking to furnish a hotel or senior living facility you probably want something that suits your style.
