Sustainability – Going Beyond Green

Imagine telling your guests their stay will be in an environment where even the furniture contributes to good health and well being.
Sound farfetched?
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air pollution is one of the top four environmental public health risks. And furniture can be one of the contributing culprits.
Our healthful environmental approach encompasses the entire spectrum from interior spaces to the earth’s precious resources.
Northland’s furniture, made in the USA, incorporates zero urea-formaldehyde and low volatile organic compound (VOC) finishes, promoting healthy indoor air quality. And with a strict eye on indoor environment, we use water based adhesives for laminate application and water based wood glue on all joints to ensure no odor or VOC emissions.
Our factory uses materials either from recycled wood and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood or from agricultural by-products. FSC supports the conservation of forests and helps people lead better lives. All materials meet California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards.
Our largest waste stream, fall-down wood from our manufacturing, is completely recycled. None is placed in land fills. We optimize our solid wood molding usage by selecting wood grades that have fewer defects, which results in less waste.
The UV finish on all our plywood is the most durable finish on the market. It is also 99.9% solids, so it qualifies for LEED and green credits.
Our green promise is integral in every step of our process, start to finish, including using suppliers that are eco-friendly. Much of our hardware is purchased from vendors in Germany that have demonstrated their commitment to sustainability.
Our furniture is blanket wrapped for shipping, eliminating the use of bubble wrap or Styrofoam – known not only to affect our land and water environments but also to release pollutants into the air. Blanket wrapping eliminates on-site disposal costa and extra space needed for installation.
Northland has an ongoing commitment to maintaining green practices and has developed 100% green collections.
